In August 2009, a Wayne County Assistant Prosecutor found more than 11,000 untested rape kits in an off-site evidence warehouse in Detroit.
All the kits have now been tested, thanks to private donors and state and federal funding.
Prosecutor Kym Worthy’s office has now investigated and closed more than 4,800 backlogged cases, which has resulted in over 239 convictions so far.
The ‘11,000 to Zero Untested Rape Kits’ Information Line and this website have been set up to give survivors their rape kit test results confidentially, provide support and resources, and gather information that might aid in prosecuting rapists.
